Summer family photos

My family photos

I’ve been really lucky this summer to be able to spend some quality time with my two kids (well, it was great while they were getting along!). We spent some time relaxing at home first and then had a lovely week away in North Wales. I love photographing my children and they are usually pretty good at letting me! Family photos are really important to me, capturing special moments and ordinary daily life. I love looking back at photos from when I was a child, it helps to keep all those memories alive and we talk about them a lot too.

Dance class

I had a fun week taking photos of the nursery ballet classes at West Wimbledon Dance Academy. The girls and boy (there was one boy!) were so cute and energetic. I felt like I’d had a full on workout at the end of each class after running up and down the room trying to capture ever dance move. West Wimbledon Dance Academy is based in Raynes Park and Wimbledon. It offers classes in ballet, modern and tap for children of all ages. West Wimbledon Dance Academy

Lavender field family photos

I love Mayfield Lavender Farm in Banstead. It’s a magical place with a sensory overload of fragrance and colour! It’s a fantastic location for a photo shoot, or just a fun place to visit. There is a lovely shop there selling all things lavender from candles to fudge. You can take a tractor ride around the farm to view the sea of lilac or settle down for lunch at the cafe, finishing off with some lavender cider! I had a lovely morning there with a gorgeous family and their little boy who crawled up and down the lanes. He was great to photograph, with his curiosity and playfulness – he loved it as his favourite colour is purple! Mayfield Lavender Farm

Naming ceremony

If you are having an important family occasion it’s a great idea to have some photos taken. I was asked to come along to the naming ceremony for this lovely girl. It was an intimate gathering of family and friends in the back garden to celebrate her first birthday. Naming ceremonies are non-religious events to mark the arrival of a child. Each one is unique and created especially for the person. Family members can make promises to the child, little anecdotes about them and their personality are shared, and poems or stories are read. If you have a family event coming up I’d love to capture those memories for you.

Paws For Thought

I had the great honour lately of being asked to photograph these beautiful children, and their families, after their first Holy Communion. Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Wimbledon was founded in 1887. The Grade II listed gothic building rests on Edge Hill and made for an impressive location. The weather was a little cold and windy but the children smiled through it and I managed to capture some lovely shots of them.

I also photographed the Fun Family Dog Show at Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Field. It was the first time this event had been held and it was an amazing success! The sun shined and over £700 was raised for the park. For more information on Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Field please take a look the Friends website.

Weddings

The best way to remember it will be with a stunning set of photos. You’ll want the images to reflect the emotion, happiness and grandeur of the day. Having a photographer who is relaxed and professional means you can get on with enjoying your day while those memories are being captured.

Portraits

Most people take great snaps of their kids on their phones, yet gathering all the family together in a single frame, or taking the time to get some really gorgeous photos of your children isn’t easy. You need to act fast or the moment is gone. Having those defining shots that you can keep forever, and look back on when they have flown the nest is very important.
